Dr Claire Freeman, Clinical Psychologist

Claire is a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience working in the NHS and private sector.

Claire is currently the School Clinical Psychologist at Harrow School where she works therapeutically with boys and their families within a boarding school environment. Claire leads the psychological team at the school and works closely with the senior management team, medical team and housemasters. Alongside this role, Claire works in private practice.

Claire’s expertise is in the assessment and diagnosis of neurodiversity (Autism and ADHD), which she completes as part of a MDT in line with NICE guidelines. She is an experienced ADOS-2 clinician and believes in joint working. Her passion lies in helping children, adolescents and their families have a better understanding of their differences and navigating their way through diagnoses. She has a specific interest in neurodivergence in females and has considerable experience of this.

Claire has previously worked in the NHS in a CAMHS service (child & adolescent mental health service) where she had a prominent role working with young people with neurodivergence and mental health concerns. Within the NHS Claire worked on an adolescent inpatient unit, a mother and baby unit in a women’s prison and in a specialist team working with looked after and adopted children. In the private sector she has also worked for an adoption agency and continues to enjoy working with adoptive families. Claire continues to enjoy providing therapy to adolescents and adults and offering parent work. Claire has previously been involved in a research project at the Royal Free Hospital working on understanding and comparing the impact of talking therapies and alternative therapies for those with cancer.

Claire is qualified to work with clients of all ages but has developed expertise in assessing and diagnosing Autism and ADHD and working with young people and their families. Situations which involve boarding school settings, working with schools around mental health and neurodivergence and working with the adopted population are also areas of specialism. Claire uses various therapeutic approaches, although systemic, cognitive behavioural and narrative approaches shape her practice.
