Interventions We Offer

Multidisciplinary Assessment

The first step would be to meet  to carry out an assessment. This will usually be with two clinicians  and would provide an opportunity to hear about what has brought you to seek support at this time. This would last up to 90 minutes and would involve meeting with parents and young people together. Depending on the nature of the difficulty we may suggest we do a school observation and/or speak  with other professionals who know you and your child. We would only do this with your agreement.

Following assessment we would make recommendations about the next steps. This could be individual work, family sessions, parent support or further assessment. If the risk is high then we may recommend another service.

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy

We offer child and adolescent psychotherapy. This is an exploratory form of therapy, which tends to be over a longer time period, and is child-led. It explores themes between what the young person brings to sessions and their life experiences.

Family Therapy

We offer family therapy. Family therapy can be useful to explore relationships and dynamics within the family. Sometimes these sessions may include the whole family, and at others only specific members of the family.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

We are offer CBT. CBT is a structured talking therapy that can help manage mood difficulties by changing the way we think and behave. It is most commonly used for treating anxiety and low mood.

Trauma-focussed Therapies

We are offer specific therapies for treating the effects of trauma, including Trauma Focussed-CBT (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET).

Cognitive Assessments

We offer general assessments of cognitive functioning if we think following initial assessment this would be helpful.

Parent support

We offer parent only sessions, which could be around any aspect of parenting and the experience of being a parent. For example, parenting strategies, managing challenging behaviour, worrying behaviours (e.g. debilitating anxiety), and adjustment to parenthood or any other life transition.

Foster carer support

We provide both foster carers groups and foster carer support on an individual basis.

Neurodevelopmental Assessments

Following initial assessment, if indicated, we offer formal multidisciplinary assessment for both Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
